Robinson and Diction
While discussing polls, presidential candidates, and the upcoming presidential election, Robinson uses specific diction to evoke emotions in the reader. Aiming towards the liberal middle aged portion of america, Robinson characterizes Trumps opposition with words like forgettable, stump, and outrageous. Through extreme characterizations, Robinson aims to appeal to the readers preexisting distain towards the republican party and relates to the audience. Robinson also states that Trump is "outrageous, unfiltered, and offensive" (Robinson 33-34). These characterizations reflect Robinson's own distain towards Trump and the republican party. Using strong diction to create a negative image of Trump evokes emotions in the audience. Through strong characterization of Trump's opposition Robinson creates a mocking tone throughout the article.
